1) What is Netscape® Nitro™ web accelerator?

2) How do I get the Netscape® Nitro™ web accelerator?

Sign-up Now to download and install Netscape® Nitro™ immediately. Getting up and running with Netscape® Nitro™ takes only a couple of minutes, and no additional hardware is required. You can also call 1-866-Netscape (1-866-638-7227).

3) How does web acceleration technology work?

The Netscape® Nitro™ web accelerator speeds up your Internet access by compressing images and text on web pages and in emails before they are sent to your computer. The compressed data travels over your Internet connection faster because there is less of it. Netscape® Nitro™ web accelerator also stores elements of frequently visited web sites so that they load faster on future visits. See Demo

What is not accelerated?

Streaming media, audio and video files

    4) What are the system requirements for using Netscape® Nitro™?

    To install the Netscape® Nitro™ web accelerator software, you must have one of the following operating systems:

    • Microsoft® Windows® 95 with Windows Socket 2 Update
    • Windows 98
    • Windows ME
    • Windows 2000
    • Windows XP
    Support for Apple® Macintosh® computers is planned for early 2005.

    5) What browsers does Netscape® Nitro™ support?

    Netscape® Nitro™ will work with any web browser that supports proxies.

    Nitro works automatically with the following browsers (no configuration required):

    • Internet Explorer 5.0 (or later)
    • Netscape 7.1 (or later)
    • Mozilla 1.6 (or later)

    In addition, Nitro works with the following browsers, though some manual configuration of your browser's proxy settings may be required (for more information, please see support.nitro.netscape.ca).

    • Firefox 1.0 (or later)
    • Opera 7
